Youth & Government
A program designed to give students a hands-on experience learning about State Government. During the program students will debate ideas, write a Legislative Bill, argue a court case, and meet new people from across California. The 90 YMCA's who participate in Youth & Government meet over two weekend conferences for training to elect officers. In February, all 2500 students take over the State Capitol buildings and court rooms for the (5-day) Model Legislature and Court (staying in the Hyatt Regency).
During the program students will have the opportunity to:
- Engage in public speaking
- Learn organizational skills
- Take part in problem solving exercises
- Build time management skills
- Make lasting friendships with students from across California
- Write a legislative bill
- Argue a court case
- Run for state and local offices
